Estudo da orientação dos fósseis em contexto paleontológico do local Gorongosa n° 12, parque nacional da Gorongosa

Abstract

The present work addresses the study of the orientation of fossils from the Gorongosa Paleontological Site (GPL-12), in Gorongosa National Park. It aims to analyze the orientation of fossils in order to understand the processes responsible for the formation of the record. paleontology in the GPL-12. The study of the orientation of the fossils was carried out through the topographical analysis of the area using the Total Station, which made it possible to record the preferential orientation of the fossils. In this study, 40 fossil variables were analyzed, resulting from paleontological excavation in two sanjas, East (E) and West (W). In this way, the statistical processing of the fossil orientation data was performed using the Rstudio Software, which allowed the graphic representation of the preferred orientation pattern of the fossils in the GPL-12. Nevertheless, data from the granulometric analysis of 14 sediment samples are presented, which were included in this study to give more emphasis to the results in the orientation of the fossils. These samples were processed using the software Excel 2013 and Gradstat version 8, which allowed the graphical presentation of the results for better understanding. Results show that the GPL-12 fossils have a preference for the flat pattern of orientation. Regarding the results of the sediments, it was found that there are four groups of sedimentary texture, composed of sand, with representation in 54, 94%, clay 23, 10%, silt with 21, 33 % and a very low percentage of gravels with about 0.63% respectively
